In 2020 Jirra joined the Rampersand VC Inclusion Advisory Board. An early stage tech venture capital firm, Rampersand is passionate about building the innovation ecosystem in Australia. 2% of Venture Capital globally is invested in businesses led and founded by women, and the percentage of VC investment in businesses helmed by women of colour is so tiny, it remains unknown. As part of her role with the Inclusion Advisory Board, Jirra will inform and support Rampersand to better understand barriers for under-represented founders. Rampersand acknowledges that, “Undoubtedly some of the funding gap is caused by an inability to recognise brilliance in founders from diverse backgrounds, specifically because there is relatively little time spent with those founders to understand them.” One of outcomes of the Inclusion Advisory Board has been the establishment of Open Office Hours, for which Australia’s most accomplished and active VCs opened their digital doors to founders on the early-stage startup journey. As a result, 75 founders met with 40 investors for 80 hours of mentorship. Rampersand themselves took part, along with AirTree, Blackbird, Black Sheep Capital, EVP, OIF, Rampersand, Reinventure, Right Click, SquarePeg, Startmate and other significant investors.
